Solve for x. 3(6 + y) = 4y - (16 + y)

I think you mean solve for y, since there is not an x... But either way, if I am correct:

3(6+y) = 4y-(16+y)        Multiply
18+3y = 4y-16-y            Subtract like terms
18+3y = 3y-16              Subtract 3y from both sides
18=16                           This set does not have a solution.
